Addictions: A Modern Perspective
October 27, 2015
Addiction has long been deeply misunderstood in both our culture and clinical practice. Rather than being a reflection of impulsivity or self-destructiveness, or a result of genetic or physical factors, addiction can be shown to be a psychological mechanism that is very closely related to other common, treatable, psychological conpulsions. This course will describe and illustrate a new way to understand and treat addictions. We will also examine the effectiveness of 12-step programs, the rehabilitation industry, myths of addiction, how to distinguish true addictions from simple abuse, and other topics in order to arrive at a comprehensive modern appreciation of the nature of addiction and its treatment.Event Website
